AGE Cares focuses on the Good Health and Wellbeing of the most vulnerable.

AGE Cares initiative was launched by AGE Network in March 2018 with the objective of empowering refugees and internally displaced persons by offering them with emergency humanitarian assistance, such as fulfilling their food and nutrition, shelter, basic health needs on ATMC- AIDS, Tuberculosis Malaria Cancer and WASH requirements.

Objectives:

Our AGE Cares Initiative focuses on:

  1. Achieving women/girls’ body & health rights
  2. Achieving women/girls good health & wellbeing

Women/Girls’ Body & Health Rights

With the focus on women/girls’ body & health rights, the initiative seeks to end unsafe abortion and increase access to modern contraception and family planning commodities for women and adolescent girls particularly those in the hard-to-reach communities, vulnerable and displacement settings including the female sex workers to end unintended pregnancy, child marriage and reducing current maternal mortality ratio of 512 per 1,000 live births as per the report of the Federal Ministry of Health in October 2020.

Women/Girls’ Good Health & Wellbeing

The AGE Cares initiative also responds to the need of young women and girls with special needs (Disabilities) as well as those impacted by domestic/sexual violence, motherless homes, emergency and disaster such as conflict and war, migration, Corona Virus Pandemic, TB, Cancer, HIV/AIDS in Nigeria.

Main Activities:

We provide emergency relief and timely support such woman2woman counseling, basic healthcare, medical/legal aid to victims of domestic/sexual violence, rape, child brides, FGM, teenage mothers,, emergency shelter, Nutritional food items and Clothing for most vulnerable and underserved women and children in the displaced and vulnerable settings.

Impact

With the support of our partners/Sponsors, we have helped 12,250 Internally Displaced women, Orphaned and vulnerable children in Lagos, Cross River and Ogun improved knowledge on HIV/AIDS, Tuberculosis and have access to nutritional foods including referral for treatment and care. We have conducted more than 500 woman2woman counseling sessions including HIV/AIDS and TB Voluntary counseling & referral for Testing and treatment at the primary healthcare centers for 1,250 women and children.
