A Brief History

The AGE Network was formed by highly enthusiastic and vulnerable young women in Nigeria who are victims of child marriage, teenage mothers and have experienced sexual abused, domestic violence, stigma, and discrimination at first hand due to their gender, different sexual orientation and health status.

It was established in October 2015 as a Charity/Community Based Organization with the primary focus to end child marriage and advance gender equality in girls’ education, promote young women’s good health, leadership and economic inclusion in Africa for a Fairer Future.

In September 2016, the Company registered with Corporate Affairs Commission Nigeria (CAC), Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS) and attained a status of 501[c][3] non-profit organization with Tax Identification Number and certified as a Designated Non-Financial Institution (DNFI) by Special Control Unit against Money Laundering an arm of Economic and Financial Crime Commission of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

2015

Establishment

2016

Status of non-profit organization

AGE attained a status of 501[c][3] non-profit organization with Tax Identification Number and certified as a Designated Non-Financial Institution.

2017

Girls Empowerment Hub

We set up the Girls Empowerment Hub, Dalemo a resource and safe space center for women and girls in Lagos and Ogun Counties. We won the CounponCode Charity Awards

2018

AGE Cares Initiative

We launched the AGE Cares Initiative with the aim to advance the sexual & reproductive health & rights of women and provide basic healthcare, Nutritional food items and Clothing for most vulnerable and underserved women and children in Nigeria.

2019

STEM Girls Initiative

We launched the STEM Girls Initiative which seeks to enhance female students choices of career in the field of Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics.

Who We Are

African Girls Empowerment Network as a registered young feminine charity/ non- profit organization committed to advancing gender equality in girls’ education, and promoting young women’s bodily and economic/ leadership rights in Africa for a Fairer Future.

We are working to end child marriage, rape, and domestic violence, promote justice, good health and well-being of underserved young women and girls and also provide support to empower rape survivors, teenage mothers, victims of domestic violence, female Genital Mutilation and other economically disadvantaged and vulnerable women and girls in Nigeria.

Since its founding in 2015, the organization has launched several projects geared at ending child marriage to help girls stay in school and provide practical support to empower other economically disadvantaged young women in Nigeria.

In addition, AGE Network has been working for LGBT young women including providing safe spaces for lesbian and bi-sexual women, sex workers, and refugee women and girls from Cameroon and internally displaced women in Nigeria.

As a Network, AGEN is also an umbrella of young women and girls led informal and formal feminist groups and community-based organizations that focus on the issues that affect young women and girls in Nigeria and other African Countries.
